Dog Food: Let them not eat yours!
There are over one hundred different
breeds of dogs and they all come in all different shapes and sizes. They all need different diets to keep them happy and healthy.
Do Different Breeds Need Different Diets?
While you can get different types of dog food for different breeds, all dogs eat the same food. The only time you really need to give a dog a different diet, is when they are very active. There are also special foods exclusively for active dogs. Active breeds include:
- Collies and sheepdogs
- German Shepherds
- Rottweilers
- Dobermans
- Siberian Husky
Unless you have an active dog, you do not need special food. However, there are some foods you can feed your dog that are healthier than others that can be found both online and in pet shops.
What Types Of Dog Food Are Available?
Now dog food comes in all different flavors
and varieties. You can even buy holistic dog food.
Holistic Dog Food
Holistic dog food is generally healthier than ordinary dog food. With added holistic supplements, the food offers all kinds of benefits, though it is generally a lot expensive than. Benefits from this kind of food include:
- Added vitamins
- Antioxidants to help keep the dog healthy
- Fatty Acids to keep skin and coat in great condition
- Inulin helps to reduce gas which is really helpful for large dogs and it helps the digestive system
- Beet Pulp to help the dogs become gut healthy
- Glucosamine Hydrochloride to help keep joints
Ingredients in different holistic food may vary but they generally help the dog in the same way.
Natural Dog Food
Many owners prefer to give natural dog food. Natural food generally has chicken, vegetables and fruit. It has been proven that a varied diet does boost the dog's immune system and keep him/her happy and healthy.
Some owners prefer to mix the food themselves by buying ordinary dog biscuits and adding
bits of chicken or vegetables with it. Other people buy natural food from pet shops that already. Again, they are more expensive than ordinary dog food but they really do help keep your dog healthy.
Premium Dog Food
There are quite a few brands offering premium dog food. Some brands such as 'Eukanuba', separate their products into breed sizes - small, medium and large. This helps to give your dog the best possible food for him/her.
Premium foods tend to have better, more nutritious ingredients added to them and they are often tailored to suit each individual dog. This is why they are more expensive than other types of food.
Ordinary Pet Store Food
Ordinary pet store food is usually sufficient for most dogs. Many people just do not have the money to spend on fancy food, and if that is the case, any ordinary dog food will do. However, be aware of the cheap brands.
All food comes in either dry biscuit form or tinned meat. While tinned meat is a firm favourite with pets,
biscuits are always a nutritious choice. You could always mix the two together but that could also prove to be expensive.
How Do I Choose Which Dog Food To Go For?
When looking for the best dog foods, it is always best to consider a number of factors. These are:
- The age of the dog
- What you can afford
There are different life stages of a dog and for each life stage there is a food. Most brands do sell different products so you should always be able to find something for your dog. Whether you have a puppy, an adult or a senior dog, there is always a food.
You also may be wondering whether or not to go for holistic dog food, natural dog food, organic dog food or ordinary dog food. While holistic food may be healthier than ordinary dog food, it all really depends on your budget. If you can afford to spend a lot of money on natural or holistic food that's great and it will certainly benefit your dog more than ordinary food, but if you don't have that money it
really doesn't make much difference. As long as you go for a decent quality food, your dog should be happy and healthy. If you are worried about getting extra nutrients you could always add natural ingredients such as meat and vegetables.
How Do I Know If My Dog Is Eating A Well Balanced Diet?
It is easy to spot a dog with a well balanced diet. Their coat is usually shiny, but not greasy.
They will be active, playful and alert, and their stools will also be hard and not runny. A healthy dog is always a happy dog. They also will not smell so much, though all dogs do have some form of natural odor. Their immune system will be in perfect working order so they should stay healthy. If your dog shows the above signs it only means that you are providing a well balanced diet.
Holistic dog food or ordinary dog food or natural dog food or premium dog food are the different choices. You can choose the best one for your dog.
