Buy a Dog! Do not miss out on a worthy companion
Puppies have boundless energy, enthusiasm. They are extremely playful and they are always happy to see us. They
grow up to be loyal, friendly and worthy companions. Choosing a puppy could possibly be the best decision you will ever make, though they do require a lot of care.
What Makes A Dog A Great Family Pet?
Dogs make great family pets simply because most of them love people. They are always happy to see you no matter how long you have been gone, and they can be really fun to watch.
Depending on the breed, some dogs live up to 14 years, making them an ideal long term pet. They have the ability to cheer you up when you are down, and they also provide you with exercise as they need daily walks in order to keep them fit and healthy.
Dogs don't ask for anything in return for their love. All they want is a little bit of attention,
daily walks and regular food. All breeds are different but generally most are great with
children.
What Should I Consider Before Buying A Dog?
There are a number of factors you should think about before actually going out and buying a dog or a puppy. Some of these factors include:
- What Breed You Want
- The Amount Of Space
- Sex
- Where To Buy From
- The Exercises
- The Costs
When choosing dogs, it is always important to consider the above factors .The cost of owning a dog can be quite high depending on the size. Each breed costs a certain amount and if you buy a small dog, its food intake will be lower than that of a bigger one so the costs for food will vary.
The breed of the dog is the most important decision you will make regarding the purchase of your puppy. If you want a family pet a breed such as a Labrador is the most common. If you want something that will protect your property, a Rottweiler may be more appropriate. You need to establish the purpose.
The amount of space will determine the size dog. If you have
a small apartment a big dog such as a Newfoundland is obviously not the kind of dog you need. You can go for a Jack Russell.
You really need to think about how much exercise your chosen breed will need before you take on the commitment. Different breeds need different amounts of exercise and if they do not get the exercise that they require, they can develop bad habits. Many people find that their dogs chew a lot and they develop behavioral problems
Dogs also need a lot of training to help them to become the best pets. Training should always start from an early age so that the dog learns what is right or wrong quickly. If dogs are not trained they can become difficult to handle and defiant as they get older. There are special dog training classes set up to not only train your dog, but to socialize it with other people and animals. Socializing is important if you want your dog to be friendly.
The costs in owning a dog differs from breed to breed.
There is so much to
consider when buying a dog, you should really research your chosen breed before contacting a breeder.
How to Select a Healthy Puppy
When choosing a puppy it is important to note the following things:
- How dominant is it?
- Does it have clean ears?
- Does its skin look healthy?
- Does it have clean, bright eyes?
Dominance in puppies can lead to aggression later on in life. If a puppy is really rough with its litter mates, it is more than likely that it will grow to be fairly dominant as an adult. If the puppy is really timid on the other hand, it could prove unpredictable. The temperament of the puppy says a lot about how it will turn out as an adult. If you are unsure about the temperament of the puppies, it is always worth asking the dog breeders as they should know each individual puppy.
Always perform a little health check on your chosen puppy before purchasing them. Sometimes the breeder may do this for you.
The front teeth (the incisors),
should be checked to see that they both meet each other. If they don't this could indicate an undershot jaw which is a defect and it could lead to dental problems.
If the skin has black specks on, it could indicate flea dirt and so it is always best to check over the puppies' skin. The last thing you want is to get a puppy home and then have your house infested with fleas.
If you follow the above tips, you should find yourself a happy, healthy puppy.
Where to Buy
There are three options when choosing where to buy your puppy. These are:
- A Pet Shop
- A Breeder
- An Animal Shelter
A Pet Shop
Pet shops are not the most ideal places to buy puppies. This is because many breeders run puppy farms where they basically breed their dogs in little spaces. The welfare of the animal is not important to these people and they sell them to pet shops to make money. A puppy from a puppy farm could end up with a lot of behavioral problems later on in life and
they aren't always healthy either. However, there are some genuine breeders who provide these puppies and they can turn into lovely pets. They are also cheaper than buying from a private breeder.
A Breeder
Dog breeders are the best people to buy puppies. This is because a breeder knows their animals, and they are able to answer any questions that you may have. They often produce good quality and healthy puppies. They can be expensive. You have to be prepared to pay a little bit extra for the puppy of your choice.
Animal Shelters
Animal shelters are home to thousands of dogs every year. Animals are dumped, treated cruelly.
These animals desperately need new homes.
Most of the dogs in dog shelters are older dogs. Purchasing a dog from a rescue home is cheaper than buying from a pet shop or a breeder and usually you are only paying for the price of neutering or spaying. Rescuing a dog from an animal shelter can be a really rewarding thing and you can often end up with a very
loving dog.
Be careful in choosing a puppy. Whether you are buying through dog breeders, dog shelters or pet shops, you should always make sure you have thought seriously about it.
